Off Season Workouts; 5 tips to Staying in Shape

As the off season quickly approaches wrestlers work out less frequently and lose a large amount of their muscle mass unless they remain active.  There are a few very effective off season workouts.  Here are some:

1.Get a Partner and Just Wrestle
After even a week of no wrestling I usually get rusty.  Just buy a cheap mat and wrestle or you can get your team or club to do a practice once or twice a week.  This is crucial to your wrestling skill.

2.Get a Good Plyometrics Program

Plyometrics, also referred too as jump training, is an important part of wrestlers training not just in the off season.  I use the one included in p90x but any other quality program will work too such as:

or

or any other type of "jump training" I personally recommend buying one such as p90x or you can get a program such as this:

This book is also a good resource and walks you through every step of the way and is a great plyometrics guide.

3.Also whenever you get a chance do a few Burpees.  A Burpee is a workout where you drop to the floor  go to a push-up position bring your feet to your hands than jump up again.  Here is an example:

4.Go for a morning Run

Morning Runs Help you wake up and strengthen your stamina.  Running in itself has many health benefits aside from conditioning.  By running every morning you'll increase your stamina enough to be able to outlast you're opponent.  Have trouble waking up check out my Article,Morning Runs: 10 Tips to getting up early and Maximizing your run, Here.

5.Workout Regularly and Maximize

These workouts will help you stay in shape and be at your best when the season starts.
